 Darul Afdal An Nisai, the 10th and last orphanage to receive food supply

​21 April 2023. The last delivery of food for orphans was for Darul Afdal An Nisai, Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City, Philippines with 24 orpans and 6 teachers. We thank our partner in Brunei- Nadi Wakaf for supporting this activity.

175 families received iftar in the last distribution of AL-BIR 1444 H.

20 April 2023. Alhamdulillah. The last Iftar packs distribution was done for the residents of Dagurongan, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao, Philippines. 175 family-sized packs were given to this area. ​

200 received iftar meals in Purok Pagalungan.

18 April 2023. Alhamdulillah. 200 iftar meals were distributed to residents of Purok Pagalungan, Bagua 1, Lugay-Lugay, Cotabato City, Philippines. This activity was made possible by Al-Khair Foundation. ​

DAR AL-MUHSINEEN, the 9th orphanage to receive food items

​20 April 2023. Alhamdulillah. Essential food items were delivered to DAR AL-MUHSINEEN FOR EDUCATION AND ORPHANS' CARE, CROSSING SIMUAY, SULTAN KUDARAT, MAGUINDANAO, PHILIPPINES with 50 orphans and 5 caretakers. Thanks to NADI WAKAF BRUNEI for supporting this program.

Purok Ali residents receive food packs

​18 April 2023. Alhamdulillah, 55 families in Purok Ali, Tamontaka 2, Cotabato City, Philippines were given food packs. The residents of Purok Ali were already given iftar meals before and ACT Malaysia came back to give rice and grocery in its second distribution.

19 April 2023. Alhamdulillah. There were still AL-BIR activities at the end of Ramadan like this food delivery to MARKAZ AL WIHDA ORPHANAGE, FEDERVILLE, COTABATO CITY, PHILIPPINES with 45 orphans and 4 caretakers. ​

​18 April 2023 (Tuesday). Alhamdulillah. Food were delivered to the 7th orphanage- AL JAMEEL COMPOUND ORPHANAGE CENTER, Rajah Muda Budtong, Bagua 2, Cotabato City, Philippines. This center has 50 orphans and 4 caretakers. Thanks to our partner in Brunei- NADI WAKAF- for supporting this program.

60 families in Cotabato City receive food packs

17 April 2023 (Tuesday). Alhamdulillah, more food packs were distributed for the urban poor @ Purok Damasaging, Crossing Virgo, RH9, Cotabato City, Philippines. 60 families received food packs. Thanks to our partner in Brunei- NADI WAKAF for supporting this activity.

100 food packs delivered to water community of Tukananes

15 April 2023 (Saturday). Alhamdulillah. 100 packs containing essential food items to last for a week or two were delivered to the residents of Tukananes, Poblacion 7, Cotabato City, Philippines. 2 goats (aqiqah) for orphans' feeding program

14 April 2023 (Friday). ACT Malaysia contributed 2 goats (AQIQAH) to the feeding program @ IHH Orphanage Centre, Barangay Tamontaka 1, Cotabato City, Philippines. IHH is a Turkiye funded orphanage. Since the devastating earthquake, the management has been struggling to keep up with the center's operation with most of the funds diverted to the victims of the earthquake in Turkiye. The orphanage has 55 orphans and 15 caretakers. ​

200 Iftar packs delivered to 2 locations in Cotabato City

14 April 2023 (Friday). Alhamdulillah. 200 (*individual) Iftar packs were delivered to the needy in 2 locations - 1) Purok Pagalungan, Lugay-Lugay, Bagua 1, Cotabato City and 2) Tulingan St, Bagua 2, Cotabato City. This distribution was made possible with the support of Al-Khair Foundation.

11 April 2023 (Tuesday). Delivery of food to Darul Hanan Orphanage Center @ Crossing Simuay, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Philippines with 54 orphans and 2 caretakers. Thank you to Nadi Wakaf, Brunei for supporting this program.

I'tikaf program welcomed by over 100 participants

AL-BIR's Itikaf Program on the last 10 nights of Ramadan started on 12 April 2023. More than 100 participated at Masjid Abubakar As-Siddiq in Boliok, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao, Philippines.

10th distribution in Solon, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao for 100 families

11 April 2023 (Tuesday). Alhamdulillah. The 10th AL-BIR distribution was done today in Solon, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao, Philippines. 100 family iftar packs were given away to the residents of this remote village. We express our sincere thanks to our partner in Brunei- NADI Wakaf- for supporting this activity. ​

8th and 9th distribution, iftar packs for 400 beneficiaries in Cotabato City

9-10 April 2023 (Sunday and Monday). Alhamdulillah. A total of 400 iftar packs were distributed in two locations in Cotabato City- 1) Purok Kalilintad, Barangay Kakar (8th distribution) and 2) Barangay Datu Balabaran, Mother Barangay Tamontaka (9th distribution). 1) 1) Markadz Al-Arfadz Orphanage Center, Bubong, Kalanganan II, Cotabato City, Philippines, sheltering 51 orphans with 8 caretakers
2. Darul Galiey Orphanage Center, Poblacion, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, Philippines, sheltering 21 orphans (all girls) with 5 caretakers.
3) Markazul Aytam Cotabato @ Gang, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Philippines with 40 orphans (all boys) and 10 teachers.
4) Markadz Abdulrahman Al-Sulaytien @ Kakar, Poblacion 8, Cotabato City, Philippines with 48 orphans (all girls) and 2 caretakers.

7th distribution- 80 food packs for needy families

7 April 2023 (Friday). Alhamdulillah. The 7th distribution was done on the same day at Pidsandawan, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao, Philippines. 80 food packs were given to needy families in this area. Being a remote village, no help comes to this community at all, whether from the government or from NGO. It is only ACT Malaysia, and this time, in cooperation with Nadi Wakaf, an NGO from Brunei, that has the opportunity to bring aid, usually in the holy month of Ramadan and during Qurban season. 7 April 2023 (Friday). Alhamdulillah, the 6th distribution for AL-BIR 1444 H was done at Purok Wakaf, Bagua 2, Cotabato City (BARMM), Philippines. 100 food packs were handed over to the community. 4 April 2023 (Tuesday). Alhamdulillah. Today, iftar meals were distributed to the residents of Boliok, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao (BARMM), Philippines. 100 iftar family packs were given on the fifth distribution from AL-BIR 1444 H.

Fourth distribution, food packs for trishaw drivers in Cotabato City. 

1 April 2023 (Saturday). Alhamdulillah, the fourth distribution for Bantuan Iftar Ramadan Al-BIR 1444 H was done today @ Purok Islam, Mother Barangay Tamontaka, Cotabato City (BARMM) for 65 trishaw drivers @ locally known as sikad drivers and 15 labourers reaching a total of 80 food packs given. The trishaw drivers earn an average of P180 pesos or RM15 per day, one of the lowest income in the city.

More water wells for Maguindanao in 2023 from Neuronadi Brunei

20 February 2023. More water wells are being built in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in Mindanao, Philippines. Many of these new water wells funded by Neuronadi Brunei were built in Tapyan, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, the ground zero of the flashfloods caused by severe tropical storm Paeng last October 2022.

RABBITS, A POSSIBLE MAIN PROTEIN SOURCE

3 February 2023. ACT Malaysia recently visited a privately owned rabbit farm in Tronoh, Perak, to learn the basics of raising rabbits. Rabbit meat is an alternative source of protein that can benefit the poor especially those who are willing to take the challenge of raising them. This livelihood project initiative is still in its trial stage as ACT tries to learn how to make this a viable scheme for the poor in Malaysia.

Sari-sari store in Cotabato City restocks and now sells cooked food

13 January 2023. ACT Malaysia helped restock its first sari-sari store in Cotabato City recently to give the business a boost. A sari-sari store is a mini convenience store selling grocery items, toiletries and other household items. A family usually builds a small structure in front of their house which becomes a go-to-store for the neighborhood. Sari-sari stores are very convenient because they sell goods at small quantities, making them affordable for all. Currently, there are 2 stores started by ACT Malaysia.

Water Wells by BUKM and Neuronadi, Brunei, 100% completed

10 JANUARY 2023. The 67 water wells from Badan Ugama dan Kebajikan MARA @ BUKM and NEURONADI, Brunei were finally completed this January. The water wells were built mostly in Maguindanao specifically in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, and Cotabato City.

400 families received help from relief efforts by ACT Malaysia

December 2022. It's been a month since massive flooding and landslides brought by severe tropical storm Paeng destroyed communities in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Overall, ACT Malaysia was able to provide 300 affected families with basic food packs and drinking water and give meal packs to 448 evacuees.

Thank you very much to those who have contributed and helped those families get by even for just a few days. We hope to see the affected communities rise and become independent again with many lessons learned from the calamity, inshaAllah.

100 families @ coastal village of Datu Odin Sinsuat received relief goods

18 November 2022. ACT Malaysia's fourth relief distribution was done at Barangay Tapian, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Flashflood occurred in this coastal village caused by the tropical storm #Paeng. 100 households received rice, eggs and drinking water.

100 families affected by Paeng in Simuay Seashore, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao, received relief

4 November 2022. 2nd relief distribution/house to house delivery was done this morning in Simuay Seashore, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao. 100 food packs (rice, eggs, bread, drinking water) were given to those affected by severe tropical storm Paeng.

The Philippines' National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reports that as of Thursday (3/11/2022), the death toll for the whole country has soared to 150, with confirmed 63 deaths from Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the highest in the country.

ACT MALAYSIA'S FIRST RELIEF AID RECEIVED BY BARANGAY KUSIONG

1 November 2022. Relief Aid for the victims of #Paeng was done yesterday in one of the most devastated areas in Maguindanao- Sitio Tinabon, Barangay Kusiong, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. 100 food packs consisting of rice, eggs, and drinking water were handed out.
A local disclosed that there are still 100+ people missing and presumed to be buried under the thick landslide. Authorities are still excavating the dead as we speak.

RELIEF AID FOR VICTIMS OF PAENG in MINDANAO

ACT Malaysia launches a relief program for the victims of severe tropical storm #Paeng in Mindanao specifically in Maguindanao and Cotabato City. From October 28-31, Paeng made landfall in different parts of the Philippines. It was on October 29 that Maguindanao del Norte in the Bangsamoro region was devastated by flooding and landslides.

KAMPUNG LOK URAI MAJOR CLEAN-UP attracts volunteers from DBKK, UMS and IKRAM

​1-2 October 2022. Gotong Royong Mega Kg. Lok Urai was a huge success, thanks to all who came and contributed in their own way. This is not the end of cleaning up the water village of Lok Urai in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. There will be more activities to follow to rid or mitigate both plastic and organic waste from this beautiful environment. It is the hope of the organizers that a chain reaction would occur and other villages will follow this example set by Kg. Lok Urai. Thank you to the volunteers from UMS, IKRAM Sabah and DBKK.

UNEP-ACT Malaysia project expected to reduce plastic waste in Pulau Gaya, Sabah.

​A baler machine has been installed in Kg Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, KK as part of a collaboration project between ACT Malaysia and United Nations Environment Program @ UNEP. Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu @ DBKK, UPM and UMS were also instrumental in the success of this project. This customized baler machine was shipped in parts to Kota Kinabalu from Semenanjung after months of R & D and manufacturing. It is hoped to reduce the plastic waste problem in the island that suffocates both human and marine population (click image below for more pictures).

2nd delivery of food and toiletries to Markadz Abdulrahman Al-Sulaitien

26 August 2022. Alhamdulillah and thank you to our donors who have always answered our call for help no matter what. The second delivery of assistance to flood-stricken Markadz Abdulrahman Al-Sulaitien (please see previous post) was done last Friday, and this time around, toiletries were included in addition to food, which were highly requested by the orphan girls. Cash aid was also given to help with their expenses. This is but a small help to ease the difficulty they are experiencing. We hope for a more permanent solution to improve the lives of the children living in orphanages in Mindanao. 

Orphanage calls for help as floodwaters rise

Markadz Abdulrahman As-Sulaitien is an orphanage located in Kakar, Poblacion 8, Cotabato City, Philippines. 45 orphan girls call it home. In July, heavy rain caused flood in their area submerging their compound. ACT Malaysia donated rice and other food items and has been raising funds for the Markadz since then. Recently, a new bout of heavy rain made matters worse as flood waters begin to rise again. Contact us if you want to donate to this orphanage (0125156646- Kurais).
PROGRAM TAJAAN BERBUKA PUASA ARAFAH PARTICIPATED BY OVER 360 FROM 3 ORPHANAGES, A MAHAD AND A MASJID.
In the Philippines, Eidul Adhaa was celebrated on the 9th of July. On the eve of Eidul Adhaa, ACT Malaysia's donors were able to provide iftar for 3 orphanages (Darul Ghali, Markaz Al Arfadz, Markaz Sulayteen); 1 mahad (Mahad Tahfiz Ginakit Foundation); and 1 masjid (Masjid Abubakar As-Siddiq). Some were also provided with sahur. The total number of participants to the Iftar Puasa Arafah program was 367. May Allah accept from us and may He reward those who share from their wealth for the orphans and the needy.

Qurban for Humanity and Solidarity 1443 H wraps up with 104 cows and 27 goats.

30 April 2022. Food supply and toiletries were given to Mahad Al Wihda Al Arabie Al Islamie, Federville, RH10, Cotabato City, Philippines. This school also serves as an orphanage as the majority of students here are orphans. ​

Lecture on Laylatul Qadr held on 27th night of Ramadan

28 April 2022. A symposium on Laylatul Qadr and Ramadan in general was held for the youth of Tukananes, Cotabato City @ Masjid Aishah on the night of 27 Ramadan. Masjid Aishah was one of the mosques renovated by ACT Malaysia many years ago.

Masjid Ismail under renovation as part of AL-BIR 1443 H program

The renovation of Masjid Ismail in Parang Maguindanao is an ongoing project by ACT Malaysia which began in Ramadan. The damaged roof and ceiling have been replaced. The renovation works continue to upgrade other parts of the masjid.

FIRST AL-BIR 1443 H ACTIVITY, FOOD PACKS DISTRIBUTION TO 70 FAMILIES ON 4 RAMADAN

6 April 2022. The first food packs distribution in Mindanao was held for 70 families @ Purok Ali, Tamontaka 2, Cotabato City, Philippines. Each family received 10 kg premium rice, 30 pcs eggs, 2 loaves of bread, 2 kg sugar, 1 kg cooking oil, 1/2 kg coffee, 2 cans condensed milk, 2 packs soy sauce and 1 pack rice noodles (click photo below for more pictures).. 

FOOD AND WATER FOR YEMEN ON FIRST DAY OF RAMADAN

3 April 2022. Alhamdulillah, your contribution has reached Yemen on the first day of Ramadan. 2 tanks of water were delivered to Sanaa and a month's supply of food were provided to 8 selected families. This is the first of hopefully many humanitarian aid that we can give to them in this holy month, inshaAllah.

ACT MALAYSIA SIGNS MOU WITH DBKK

​2 April 2022. ACT Malaysia and Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu signed a landmark MOU sealing a collaboration on conservation efforts especially on the marine environment. DBKK has recognized the importance of the ongoing work done by ACT Malaysia and UNEP in Pulau Gaya that aims to stop sewage to be thrown into the ocean. The signing was witnessed by the Chief Minister of Sabah on the launching of Love KK and KK Clean-up Day.

The first water well built in 2022, Telaga Umar Layth, is now serving a community in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, Philippines. ACT Malaysia's telaga project is a low cost, high impact installation to communities without access to running water.

​PROTECT YOUR HOME: NATURE, an environmental awareness program for students held in Kg. Lok Urai

12 February 2022. An environmental awareness program was held for the students of Pusat Pembelajaran Alternatif (Alternative Learning Centre), Kg. Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, Sabah, organized by ACT Malaysia and United Nations Environment Programme @ UNEP in cooperation with UPM and UMS. Miss Monica Chin, the resource speaker, is from One Ocean Empire, a group dedicated to environmental and marine conservation. ACT Malaysia recognizes the critical state of our oceans today and is taking steps to help in the conservation efforts with the full support of UNEP. The young generation's participation is crucial for these programs to be successful in the long term.

​CHAIRS FOR A MORE COMFORTABLE LEARNING 

Shipping day for the 180 units of chairs (kursi kuliyah) to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The chairs will be given to Pusat Pembelajaran Alternatif (Alternative Learning Centre) @ Kampung Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, Sabah. The chairs are to reach Sabah on the first week of March 2022.

​MORE UPGRADE FOR SCHOOL FOR UNDOCUMENTED CHILDREN IN PULAU GAYA, SABAH.

Six units of electric fans have been installed in Pusat Pembelajaran Alternatif (Alternative Learning Centre) in Kampung Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, Sabah. The centre has 300 students who are mostly undocumented and couldn't attend normal schools. And also recently, ACT Malaysia replaced the old sinking floors of the school with new ones. 

​PROJEK CUCI2 KARAK WRAPS UP WITH 20 HOUSES CLEANED AND MORE IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER NGOS.

A total of 20 houses were cleaned by ACT Malaysia Team Cuci2 Karak since 28 December 2021 until 8 January 2022 . This ends the project that aims to make houses livable again for affected families after the flood. There are still a lot of work to be done. Most of the houses are fit to inhabit again but outside is a different story. Damaged appliances and furniture still litter the neighbourhood and mud/soil are still all over the streets, if not in the front yard. Cleaning this up will be the next phase.

​TEAM CUCI2 KARAK (ACT'S KARAK CLEANING TEAM) IS DEEP AT WORK MAKING HOUSES LIVABLE AGAIN AFTER THE FLOOD 

​ACT MALAYSIA COMMITS TO CLEANING HOUSES IN FLOOD AFTERMATH

​One of the most challenging tasks in the aftermath of flood is getting rid of the dirt, mud, sand, garbage, etc. trapped in homes. But a clean and livable house is such a necessary step for families to get back on their feet and move on from the traumatic experience. ACT Malaysia is now raising funds to buy 3 petrol powered water jets to help clean houses. Water jet is necessary for a faster and effective clean-up. From what we've seen, even the kitchen utensils need strong water spray to make them usable again. You can donate any amount to help purchase the water jets. ​SUPPORT OUR CARE4YEMEN RELIEF PROGRAM

ACT Malaysia's Care4Yemen relief has begun and the appreciation from the beneficiaries is overwhelming. Yemen indeed is a special place with special people. We have received a lot of pictures and videos of individuals saying thank you. To kick-start Care4Yemen, food and blankets were given to Marib, and water, to Sanaa.

TERANGI MALAMku, the Solar Lamps Project has given out 2,800 units of lamps in Mindanao to date.

​Terangi Malamku, the Solar Lamps Project, is an ongoing effort by ACT Malaysia to make nights a little bit brighter for families without access to power. There are still communities in Maguindanao who rely on kerosene lamps which are costly, unhealthy, and dangerous. Rechargeable solar lamps can light up their homes for 8 hours on a good charge and they can be used for a year or more if taken care of properly. They can also charge phones.
To date, more than 2,800 units of solar lamps were distributed since the project started in 2014.

​ACT Malaysia visits a noodle making factory for its entrepreneurial project with UNEP for women of Lok Urai, Sabah.

30 Nov. 2021. To learn about yellow noodles production, ACT Malaysia paid a visit to a mee (noodles) factory in Batang Kali, Selangor. This is to help understand the raw materials, machineries and the process of mee production. ACT and United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) are set to put up a noodle making factory in Kg. Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, Sabah, as a part of their community empowerment program that is ultimately aimed at protecting the marine environment. ​


Over 90 WATER WELLS installed this year as of September 2021.

There are over 80 water wells donated for Mindanao since the beginning of the year until August, 2021 with 70 % completed and 30 % still under construction. They are now serving communities in Maguindanao and Cotabato City, Philippines.

Qurban for Humanity and Solidarity (QHS 1441H) ends with 75 cows and 27 goats for Mindanao.

75 cows and 27 goats were the number of animals contributed this year for Qurban for Humanity and Solidarity 1442H. Despite the pandemic, ACT Malaysia's donors continued to share a part of their wealth for the less fortunate Muslims in Mindanao, Philippines. We thank NADI and NEURONADI Brunei for contributing 15 cows and 3 portions and Badan Ugama dan Kebajikan MARA @ BUKM for contributing 6 cows and 2 goats.

36 water wells or telaga donated during Ramadan 2021 have been completed and now serving 36 communities in Mindanao. Alhamdulillah. 

MAJOR IMPROVEMENT FOR MARKADZ GINAKIT'S DORMITORY

Alhamdulillah. The Markaz Ginakit Litahfeezhil Qur'an Al Kareem students' dormitory has been renovated, thanks to our contributors. Improvement includes floor tiling, bed frame repair and painting, clothesline installation and provision of new mattresses and pillows. There are still many things to be done for this Markadz such as installing industrial fans and lockers (for storage). ACT Malaysia will continue to raise funds for further improvement of the school. Ongoing project by ACT Malaysia- Renovation of students' dormitory @ Markadz Ginakit Litahfeezhil Qur'an Al Kareem. When completed, the 65 students will be able to hang out and sleep in a space with better beds, new mattresses and pillows, newly tiled floor and some other installation aimed at making them more comfortable.

Nice to Wear project goes to Pulau Gaya, Sabah.

Nice to Wear project (part 4) continues in 2021 with Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, Sabah, as the new location for distribution of preloved clothing. ACT Malaysia shipped the clothing to Sabah last March. Now, the local community has re-packed and transported the items to Lok Urai, ready to be distributed before Eidul Fitr.

Markadz Ginakit Litahfeezhil Quran Al Kareem joins Itikaf program

29 April 2021. Alhamdulillah. The tahfiz students at Markadz Ginakit Litahfeezhil Quran Al Kareem, Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City, will be joining the Itikaf program on the last 10 days of Ramadan organized by ACT Malaysia. In addition, as requested by the mudir, the much needed big burner/cooker and cutlery were also delivered yesterday.

30 WATER WELLS INSTALLED IN MINDANAO IN 2020

Alhamdulillah, a total of 29 telaga or water wells were donated in 2020 with 9 still under construction. Clean water is a basic need and yet, many communities still do not have access to it. Improving their quality of life is as easy as installing a water well. ACT Malaysia will continue to strive to alleviate difficulties faced by many indigent communities.

30 November 2020. Alhamdulillah, the final distribution (300 pcs of solar lamps) were done today in Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City, Philippines. We are grateful to ACT Mindanao for their hard work in implementing the activity

27 November 2020. Alhamdulillah, 300 solar lamps were given to 150 families at Brgy. Dansuli, Datu Salibo Municipality, Maguindanao.

25 November 2020. 325 families received a pair of solar lamps in ​Sambolawan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Philippines.

ACT Malaysia and Tabung Bantuan Kemanusiaan (TBK) of Zakat Pulau Pinang, in collaboration with International Monitoring Team (IMT Malaysia) and Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission (BHRC), gave away 650 solar lamps to the residents of Brgy. Sambolawan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Philippines. A total of 325 families (2 lamps per family) benefited from this project. We hope these lamps help to light up their homes and make them happier

Alhamdulillah, Our second sari-sari store is now operating in Crossing Pagatin, Datu Salibo, Maguindanao. A sari-sari store is a a small neighbourhood shop selling a variety of goods. The first one is already supporting a family of five in Cotabato City. Sari-sari store is a part of ACT Malaysia's initiative to provide small businesses to struggling families in Mindanao.

On 8 August 2020, 100 solar lamps were distributed to the residents of  @ Naketan, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao for Terangi Malamku Project.

The preloved clothes from #nicetowear3 campaign were given away to the ladies of the communities during the last Qurban distribution of ACT Malaysia. Here are some of the happy faces who received the clothes. ​

ACT Malaysia's first #act_sarisaristore project will hopefully become a reliable source of income for this family. 
A sari-sari store is a mini convenience store selling grocery items and toiletries. A family usually builds a small structure in front of their house which becomes a go-to-store for the neighborhood. Sari-sari stores are very convenient because they sell goods at small quantities. You can find 100 grams of sugar, 50 ml of cooking oil and 1 kg of rice in this store. Almost every neighborhood in the Philippines has a sari-sari store.

​28 May 2020. Alhamdulillah, the mattreses for Darul-Ghali orphans finally arrived today. 30 Mandaue foam mattresses were given to 25 orphans and 5 caretakers of Darul-Ghali. Mandaue mattresses are one of the highest quality, durable, comfortable and with a warranty of 5 years.
22 May 2020. Alhamdulillah. The last Ramadan hadiah packs distribution for Bantuan Iftar Ramadan was done yesterday for 60 families @ Purok Mayan, Bagua 2, Cotabato City. This wraps up ACT Malaysia's AL-BIR program this year which has benefited 630 families.

16 May 2020. Alhamdulillah, Bantuan Iftar Ramadan @ ALBIR 1441H through its Ramadan Hadiah packs brightened the day for 70 families @ Tukananes, a riverine community in Cotabato City, Philippines. 
12 May 2020. Due to the COVID-19 threat, ACT Malaysia has cancelled the itikaf program in mosques. Instead, for the last 10 nights of Ramadan, we have collaborated with 2 orphanages- one in Cotabato City and another in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, for a program called "Seeking Laylatul Qad'r" where the orphans will perform acts of ibadah in the quest for the Night of Power. ACT Malaysia provides Sahur for the orphans. In addition to food stuff, cash aid was also given. The orphanages are:

28 April 2020. The first of the Ramadan Hadiah packs distribution kicked off @ Limakasako, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao. 50 families received food packages containing rice, eggs, coffee, sugar, condensed milk, cooking oil, rice noodles, bread, soy sauce, and also washable face masks.
26 April 2020. Around 130 families in 6 Barangays (villages) in Maguindanao received food for Iftar in the form of 1.5kg of meat (beef) and 1.5kg of rice. The meat came from 2 cows that were slaughtered as Aqiqah.

This is the last distribution for COVID-19 Relief program started by ACT Malaysia on 26 March 2020. Almost a month later, the total number of beneficiaries reached 525 from 11 location in Cotabato City and Maguindanao.
19 April 2020. Another 50 families of mostly farmers and fishermen received 10kg of premium rice and 1 tray of eggs at Barangay Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City, Philippines. This brings the total number of beneficiaries of relief to 475 since the distribution started on 26 March 2020.
19 April 2020. Alhamdulillah, 50 families of mostly payong2 and sikad drivers received 10kg of premium rice and 1 tray of eggs at Barangay Kakar, Cotabato City, Phlippines as part of the COVID-19 relief efforts by ACT Malaysia.
17/4/2020. 75 families of mostly payong2 (tuktuk) drivers received relief packages of 10kg rice and 1 tray of eggs @ 1st Road, Tulingan Street, Bagua 2, Cotabato City. ​
​12 April 2020. 60 selected beneficiaries from Barangay Solon and Amadeo, Sultan Mastura and Barangay Kawa, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao were invited to receive 10 kg of rice and a tray of eggs as part of the COVID-19 Relief for the Needy project by ACT Malaysia. Enhanced Community Quarantine is extended to end of April in the Philippines.
7 April 2020. Alhamdulillah, 1 tray of eggs (30pcs) was added to 10kg of rice as a relief pack for our beneficiaries- 40 families of trishaw (sikad) and tuk-tuk (payung2) drivers @ Mother Barangay Tamontaka, Cotabato City, Philippines received the relief goods.
​3 April 2020. Alhamdulillah, This morning, ACT Mindanao went house to house to deliver rice for trisikad and payung2 drivers' families @ Moon Street, RH 8, Cotabato City, Philippines. 50 families receive 8kg of premium rice. We'll try our best to continue the distribution as we are getting more and more requests from the same or other areas who are really in need.
30 March 2020. Alhamdulillah, a total of 50 trishaw and tuk-tuk drivers were provided with 10kg premium rice at Mangungan, Bagua 2, Cotabato City, Philippines. We hope to reach more beneficiaries as the community quarantine continues.

27 March 2020. The second rice distribution was successfully done this morning. 25 trishaw (trisikad) drivers received 8 kg of rice @ Purok Islam, Datu Balabaran, Tamontaka, Cotabato City. As with yesterday's distribution, the amount of rice per recipient was adjusted to accommodate additional names in the list. Distribution was done in small groups to abide social distancing.
26 March 2020. 45 tuk-tuk drivers were given 7kg of rice each at Purok Talitay, Purok Emba and Purok Kalilintad, Rosary Heights 7, Cotabato City. Initially, the plan was to give 10kg to only 30 but the amount was adjusted to make sure everybody receives.

​Alhamdulillah. It may not be much but it is a relief, nevertheless.

#nicetowear3 boxes of clothing officially handed to ACT Mindanao by IMT Malaysia

15 March 2020. The #nicetowear3 boxes were officially handed over to ACT Mindanao by the IMT, Alhamdulillah. In light of the current circumstances arising from the COVID19 pandemic, the distribution of the clothes is postponed to a later date. Cotabato City and Maguindanao are under enhanced community quarantine. May Allah protect us all, aamiinn.

NICE TO WEAR WOMEN'S CLOTHING DONATION AWAITING CONFIRMATION TO BE FLOWN TO COTABATO CITY, PHILIPPINES BY IMT MALAYSIA

7 March 2020. The "NICE to WEAR" preloved women's clothing were repacked at a warehouse in Olak Lempit, Banting. These clothes were collected last year and were supposed to have been flown to Cotabato City, Philippines through International Monitoring Team @ IMT-Malaysia aircraft last March 2019. Unfortunately, due to a technical problem, the boxes of clothes had to be left behind. They were since then stored in this furniture factory in Banting, awaiting the next IMT to take over this month.

As the IMT exchange of teams approaches, ACT Malaysia with the help of volunteers prepare the clothing, repacking to new boxes, labelling and stacking the boxes for an easy transport to the airport. May Allah make the path easy for transporting and distributing these items. Amin.

Telaga Hasna binti Udin is one of the 7 water wells recently installed (January 2020) in Mindanao. It is now providing clean water to a community in Sultan Kudarat, Alhamdulillah.

​ANNOUNCEMENT: LAUNCHING OF TABUNG TELAGA MALAYSIA (20 NOVEMBER 2019)

To our dear friends who wish to donate water wells but could not quite afford the cost of installing a water well, ACT Malaysia would like you to consider contributing to TABUNG TELAGA MALAYSIA. You can give any amount as many times as you like to this fund. Donations will be pooled to build water wells primarily in Mindanao and in Bangladesh for our Rohingya brothers and sisters. The water wells will be named "Telaga Malaysia 1, Telaga Malaysia 2" and so forth.
ACT Malaysia will update the status of the tabung periodically to donors through emails.

Qurban for Humanity and Solidarity 1440H was a success with 85 cows sacrificed and distributed in Mindanao.

With the 85 cows we have collected from you, we went far and wide to reach those who are deserving, from the watery fields of Ligawasan in Sultan sa Barongis to Libutan in Mamasapano and Labungan in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. We also managed to give to the new Muslims of Lake Sebu and Tiboli, South Cotabato, and to one island in Davao called Balut. Alhamdulillah, ACT Malaysia's Qurban for Humanity and Solidarity 1440H was one of the best ever for the people of Mindanao.

3 June 2019. This is the 10th and last iftar packs distribution which was held at Upper Kinagatan (along the Grand Mosque), Barangay Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City. 100 families received iftar bringing the total number of recipients of iftar pack meals to 1,000 families.
3 June 2019. 100 families received Iftar packs at Brgy. Lusay, Mamasapano, Maguindanao. This is the 9th iftar packs distribution for ALBIR1440H.
4 June 2019. The 4th and last food packs distribution was done at Sitio Dalimpong, Brgy. Dalampua, Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao. 100 families received 10kg of rice and some grocery items.

31 May 2019. Ramadan symposium with the youth of Tukananes, Cotabato City, held at Masjid Aishah. Several resource speakers were invited to talk about the significance of Ramadan and the Lailatul Qad'r. This masjid was upgraded by ACT Malaysia years before.

Semuanya bermula dengan satu idea.... ingin memberi kegembiraan kepada wanita2 yang gigih di Mindanao dengan cara yang paling kos efektif. Lagipun, dana tidak mencukupi kerana terdapat krisis yang berlaku di serata dunia yang juga mendapat perhatian ramai rakyat Malaysia. Dengan rahmah Allah SWT, dengan satu idea kecil dan beberapa hubungan kerjasama strategik, ACT Malaysia telah memungkinkan untuk membawa senyuman kepada wajah wanita Bangsamoro dan ia akan berbuat demikian untuk kali ke-3.
 
Pada Ramadan 2017, "NICE TO WEAR 1" telah dianjurkan. Kami mengutip pakaian Muslimah terpakai@preloved dari rakan dan keluarga dan menghantarnya ke Mindanao melalui Poslaju. Seperti yang dapat dibayangkan, kos penghantaran adalah sangat mahal dan ianya menghadkan kuantiti yang mampu dihantar. Kami terfikir, munkinkah ada cara untuk meminimumkan kos penghantaran? dan jika ada, bagaimana? Alhamdulillah, jawapannya ada pada Team Pemantauan Antarabangsa Malaysia@International Monitoring Team Malaysia. Setiap tahun, pasukan IMT Malaysia akan bertukar anggota baru. Team IMT akan berangkat ke Cotabato City, Filipina menggunakan pesawat TUDM. Dengan bantuan Tuan Abdullah Zawawi, mantan Konsul Jeneral Malaysia di Davao, Filipina, ACT Malaysia telah mendapat keizinan pihak IMT untuk mengangkut barangan yang dikumpul dari Malaysia ke Cotabato City melalui pesawat TUDM. Malah, team IMT juga telah bersama-sama team ACT mengedarkan pakaian tersebut kepada penerima sasaran dan juga menjalankan misi perubatan di salah satu lokasi pengedaran. Sejumlah 700 orang menerima hijab, jubah, blaus, baju kurung dan telekung dari Malaysia untuk "NICE TO WEAR 2".
 
Kami merancang untuk menggandakan jumlah yang kami kumpulkan tahun lalu untuk 'NICE TO WEAR 3' dan kami hanya mempunyai 10 hari lagi untuk berbuat demikian sebelum pertukaran pasukan IMT pada pertengahan bulan Mac 2019 ini. Anda boleh menjadi sebahagian daripada projek ini yang akan membawa kegembiraan kepada kehidupan ramai wanita di Mindanao yang menginginkan mempunyai sesuatu yang baik untuk dipakai tetapi malangnya mereka tidak berkemampuan. 21/12/2018. Closing project for 2018, a water well for Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. 

12-13/12/2018. ACT Malaysia's Kursus Bahasa Arab (TPI) goes to Aceh, Indonesia. More than 50 teachers participated. The kursus was facilitated by Ustaz Radzi and Datu Mustafa Kamal.

5/12/2018. Kursus Bahasa Arab MUMTAZ (TPI based) by ACT Malaysia to pensioners at Kolej Komuniti Hulu Langat in Kajang. Alhamdulillah, the participants gave very positive feedback.

10 JUNE 2018. 2nd FOOD PACKS DISTRIBUTION- AL-BIR 1439H.

​Alhamdulillah. 115 families affected by the recent flash flood at Solon, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao were provided with rice, sugar, dried fish, sardines, noodles, coffee, soy sauce. Many of the recipients lost their homes and their livestock due to the flood.

I'tikaf program is ongoing @ two mosques- Masjid As-Siddiq, Simuay Seashore, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao and Masjid At-Taebein, Purok Tuka, Esteros, Cotabato City. ACT Malaysia helps organize the community and provide sahur for the participants for 10 days.

5 JUNE 2018. 7th IFTAR PACKS DISTRIBUTION- AL-BIR 1439H.

Alhamdulillah. 100 families received Iftar at Barangay Biniruan, Kakar, Cotabato City. Thank you for your donations.

3 June 2018. 6th IFTAR PACKS DISTRIBUTION- AL-BIR 1439H.

Alhamdulillah. The heavy rain and flooded terrain did not stop our volunteers from bringing iftar to 100 families in the coastal community of Batog, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao. Many parts of Cotabato City and Maguindanao are now experiencing heavy rains and flash floods.

Alhamdulillah, Food packs were given to 75 families in Pidsandawan, Radjah Buayan, Maguindanao including the teachers of Mahad Al-Falah. Each pack contains 10kg of rice as well as sugar, cooking, oil, coffee, bread, sardines and noodles that should last at least a week.

THE 2ND #nicetowear PROJECT WAS A SUCCESS with over 1000 pcs of hijab and 700 pcs of clothing distributed.

1. 12/4/2018. 300 people in Solon, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao, received clothing from the #nicetowear2 project by ACT Malaysia. In addition, a medical mission was organized by IMT during the distribution. IMT Malaysia Deputy Head General Shafiq led the activities.

2. 11/4/2018. 100 people in Simuay Seashore, a coastal community in Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao, received clothing from the #nicetowear2project by ACT Malaysia. The Head of IMT Malaysia Maj. Gen. Datuk Mohd Nazir Mami led the distribution.

3. 10/4/2018. 200 people in Batog, a coastal community in Parang, Maguindanao, received clothing from the #nicetowear2 project by ACT Malaysia. IMT Malaysia helped with the distribution.

4. 9/4/2018, A happy day for pupils and parents @ Kindal Elementary School, Km.30, Upi, Maguindanao, Philippines, who received school backpacks (with stationery) and clothing as part of the #nicetowear2 project initiated by ACT Malaysia in cooperation with International Monitoring Team Malaysia, ACT Mindanao and MyCARE.

14/03/2018. Alhamdulillah, the #nicetowear boxes of donated clothing and stationery have arrived in Awang Airport, Cotabato City.

12/03/2018. Delivery of 17 boxes of #nicetowear preloved clothing and stationery to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport @ Subang Airport. Around 500 kg of clothing were collected and will be flown to Mindanao by the Malaysian International Monitoring Team.

I received a call from the Malaysian Ex-Consular for Davao, Hj Abdullah, that the International Monitoring Team (IMT) will change team mid March (around 14 March). A bit of late notice, but to me, worth making the effort.
ACT MALAYSIA is making a drive to collect used clothing and also new stationeries for kids and the poor in Mindanao. The goods will be delivered to Mindanao (Cotabato City to be exact) via our Malaysian Airforce Plane that is going to bring the new team, too.

1. Used Women and Girls Clothing (quality from moderate to high or new only): Baju Kurung, Jubah, Tudung, Telekong, Blouse Muslimah, etc.

WAQAF WATER WELL MINDANAO UPDATE- 20 units of water wells from MyCARE are currently being completed.

ROHINGYAKU SAYANG- LATEST UPDATE

As of February 2018, 1 masjid, 8 water wells and 1 toilet were built in Balu Khali , Ukhia Camp, Cox's Bazaar, Bangladesh. In addition, 200 food packs and 40 solar lamps were also provided to the refugees. ACT Malaysia teamed up with a Bangladesh NGO, Charitable Society for Relief and Orphans' Care and Needy, to implement the activities.

18/6/2017. Alhamdulillah. 100 food packs (1 week supply of food including 10kg rice, sugar, bread, noodles, canned sardines, soy sauce, dried fish,etc.) were given to 100 families in Pidsandawan, Radja Buayan, Maguindanao. Slippers for kids were also distributed.

21 Ramadan 1438H. Alhamdulillah, the Itikaf program started with 3 mosques joining- Masjid As-Siddiq in Lower Buliok, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao, Masjid At-Taebein in Esteros, Cotabato City and Masjid Abubakar As-Siddiq in Simuay, Seashore, Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao. These photos show the congregation in Masjid As-Siddiq. In total (3 mosques), around 260 people joined the program.

Situasi Kemanusiaan di Mindanao
 
Filipina, sebuah negara miskin adalah tempat tinggal kepada lebih 100 juta orang. Ia adalah salah satu Negara yang paling banyak bencana di dunia, di kedudukan ketiga di antara 171 negara dalam Indeks Risiko Dunia 2015. Mengalami sekitar 20 taufan setahun, lima daripadanya biasanya menyebabkan kerosakan besar, banjir kilat dan tanah runtuh.
 
Di tengah-tengah latar belakang ini adalah Mindanao, pulau kedua terbesar di Filipina. Di Mindanao, defisit makanan menjadi lebih parah dengan kesan konflik bersenjata selama beberapa dekad yang menyebabkan wujudnya pelarian di dalam Negara (Internally Displaced Persons). Menurut World Food Program, di antara tahun 2000 dan 2010, lebih daripada 40% daripada keluarga di dalam telah dipaksa berpindah @ “displaced” sekurang-kurangnya sekali, yang membawa kepada kemerosotan taraf hidup. Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), yang paling teruk terjejas oleh konflik bersenjata, adalah daerah yang paling miskin di Filipina.
 
Di dalam ARMM, Maguindanao adalah konsisten di dalam senarai kawasan paling miskin di Filipina. Kedudukannya adalah ke-4 paling miskin dalam 2006-2012 dengan 54.5% kadar kemiskinan, bermakna lebih daripada separuh daripada penduduk tidak mampu keperluan asas seperti makanan dan air. Baru-baru ini, Maguindanao telah dikelompokkan dengan 4 wilayah lain sebagai yang paling miskin di Filipina (2012-2015).
 
Cotabato City adalah sebuah bandar bersempadan dengan Maguindanao dan telah mengambil sebilangan besar orang-orang pelarian pada masa lalu. Ramai daripada mereka yang melarikan diri berpindah ke bandar kepada saudara-mara mereka. Mereka yang tidak mempunyai saudara mara di bandar menjadi setinggan dan tetap hidup dalam kemiskinan. Di samping itu, bandar Cotabato juga mempunyai penduduk miskin Bandar atau “urban poor”, yang tinggal di kawasan “slums”.
 
Kekurangan makanan adalah masalah utama bagi ramai orang di Maguindanao dan Cotabato City. Statistik ARMM 2015 mendedahkan bahawa sejumlah 31,000 kematian kanak-kanak dikaitkan dengan kekurangan zat makanan, yang mewakili 45% daripada jumlah kematian kanak-kanak. Terdapat juga 3.7 juta kes-kes kekurangan zat makanan termasuk cirit-birit, jangkitan pernafasan akut dan anemia. Ini adalah kesan daripada ibu bapa yang tidak mempunyai akses kepada mata pencarian kerana kerap berpindah disebabkan oleh konflik bersenjata.
 
Walaupun situasi keamanan telah meningkat dengan ketara dalam tahun-tahun kebelakangan ini, ramai yang masih hidup dalam kemiskinan. Konflik bersenjata telah memberi kesan buruk jangka panjang kepada penduduk yang berpendapatan rendah. Statistik telah menunjukkan bahawa daerah Maguindanao masih termiskin di Filipina dan mempunyai masalah kekurangan mekanan yang meluas. Kajian WFP menunjukkan kadar sangat rendah pelajar pelajar yang tamat sekolah rendah dan pertumbuhan terbantut (yang disebabkan oleh kekurangan zat makanan yang kronik) di kalangan kanak-kanak bawah lima tahun.
 
PROGRAM BANTUAN IFTAR RAMADAN (AL-BIR) telah menjadi projek tahunan ACT Malaysia sejak penubuhannya pada tahun 2008. Setiap Ramadan, ACT cuba untuk menyampaikan bantuan makanan kepada masyarakat termiskin di Maguindanao dan Cotabato City. Tahun lepas sahaja, bekalan makanan untuk 1 minggu diberikan kepada 210 keluarga di Maguindanao. makanan berbuka puasa telah diagihkan kepada 1,400 keluarga di Maguindanao dan Cotabato City. Di samping itu, 110 keluarga dibekalkan dengan 26 liter air minuman yang tulen kerana akses kepada air minuman yang selamat juga adalah satu masalah di kalangan golongan miskin.
 
ACT Malaysia merayu kepada individu dan organisasi untuk sama sama menyokong program ini. Ramadan adalah masa yang tepat untuk berkongsi sebahagian harta kita kepada mereka yang memerlukannya. Golongan miskin di Mindanao berhak mendapat bantuan yang boleh kita berikan untuk meringankan beban yang mereka telah alami untuk beberapa dekad. Melalui bantuan anda, insyaAllah kita boleh meringankan beban mereka Ramadan ini.

Terangi Malamku- the Solar Lamps Project by ACT Malaysia

​TERANGI MALAMKU, the solar lamp project will be re-started soon to answer the needs of electricity deprived communities in Maguindanao, Philippines. There are still many areas in Maguindanao which have no access to electricity and even those with access are prone to experience power outages regularly due to shortage of energy from power plants. The solar lamps will provide the much needed light for the nightly activities and will result to an enhanced living quality.

Most of those who have no electricity use kerosene lamps at night but these lamps need to be refilled all the time and not to mention, they are quite dangerous to use and emit an unpleasant smell. Solar lamps are much better alternative as they are easier to handle, safer and cheaper in the long run. If taken care of properly, it can last for years. Once charged it can last for 5 hours or more. It can also serve as a power source for charging phones. Contact us to join!​

QURBAN FOR HUMANITY AND SOLIDARITY 1437 H

Alhamdulillah, ACT Malaysia's Qurban for Humanity and Solidarity 1437 H was successfully implemented. The slaughter of cows and goats and distribution of meat began on  Eid day until the 3rd day of tasyrik (12-15 September 2016). From the 39 cows and 21 goats collected, around 3,300 families received 1kg of meat. 12 different locations became the distribution areas in Mindanao as follows.

The beneficiaries are full of gratitude to Allah swt, as well as the donors for the help given to them. The very high price of beef renders it not affordable for the poor.

​COVID-19: RELIEF FOR THE NEEDY targets trishaw and tuk-tuk drivers in Cotabato City and Maguindanao, Philippines this March 2020

Everyone is feeling the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, even more so by those whose livelihood are directly affected like the trishaw and tuktuk drivers. In Cotabato City, income for these drivers has plummeted because of lack of passengers due to the community quarantine in place.

ACT Malaysia with the help of some generous souls reaches out to these drivers and helps to lessen the burden of putting food on the table by giving them rice.

Qurban for Humanity and Solidarity @ QHS 1441H (2020) raised 92 cows and 23 goats

QHS was in its 12th year in 2020 and ACT Malaysia had collaborated with Jemaah Ustaz Sabri which contributed 28 cows and 1 goat and Ikatan Guru-Guru Muslim Malaysia or I-GURU which provided 8 cows. From ACT Malaysia’s donors, we received 56 cows and 22 goats bringing the total number of animals to 92 cows and 23 goats. WHY ACT MALAYSIA FOCUSES ON MINDANAO

Humanitarian Situation in Mindanao
A combination of armed conflict, corrupt government and natural disasters has left most of Mindanao population struggling to survive. In a recent study of National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) of the Philippines, The five-province, two-city Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) posted the highest poverty incidence among families in the country’s 17 regions nationwide in 2012, with Lanao del Sur posting the highest at 68.9% and Maguindanao at 57.8%. Nationwide. 22 out of 100 families were estimated to be poor in the 1st semester of 2012. In the ARMM, the figure is more than twice, at 47 families out of 100. In Lanao del Sur, the figure is thrice the national average, at 69 out of 100 families and Maguindanao at 58 out of 100 families. In three years, 2009 to 2012, Maguindanao’s poverty incidence rose by as much as 20.2%.

The government considers a Filipino family poor if monthly earnings are less than the poverty threshold. In the 1st semester of 2012, poverty threshold for a family of 5 was at P5,458 per month to meet basic food needs. If non-food needs -- such as clothing, housing, transportation, health, and education expenses, and others -- are added to the threshold, cut off in 2012 went up to P7,821 earnings a month.

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan explained that problems with peace & security played a substantial role in the increased poverty incidence in some provinces in Mindanao. That coupled with succession of natural disaster mainly in the form of heavy flooding due to typhoons have made living conditions worse for many people especially in Cotabato and Maguindanao area. Last month alone, an estimated 30,000 people in Maguindanao and Cotabato were uprooted from their homes due to flooding.

And historically Mindanao people or the Moros have been at war with whom they regard as colonials (the Spaniards, Americans and later Filipinos).  The land is continually under arms struggle since the 17th century thus causing instability and underdevelopment.
