CARE FOR YEMEN RELIEF
In December 2021, ACT Malaysia launched a special fund called Care4Yemen (#actcareforyemen) to help families affected by the Yemen crisis . Yemen is currently the world’s largest humanitarian crisis affecting 66% of the total population of 30 million. 6 years of war have plunged the country to poverty and suffering.
Why help Yemen?
1) An estimated 233,000 people died due to the conflict, 131,000 of whom died from indirect causes such as lack of health services, infrastructure and food, 10,000 children killed or maimed.
2) 2.3 million under 5 children suffer from acute malnutrition
3) 16 million people are “food insecure” including 11 million children
4) 1.2 million internally displaced children
5) Food prices have rocketed by 150%
6) Cholera outbreak caused 4,000 deaths.
Yemen is calling for help and answering that call has become an obligation for us. How can we help? The temperature has started to drop in many parts of the country, increasing the risk of hypothermia especially among children. Mink blankets are essential to keep them warm. Food and water are also key to survive.
1. Mink blankets cost around RM100 each; they are durable (can last for 20 years), excellent in retaining heat and can keep 5 children warm.
2. Food box of RM100 can sustain a family for 2 weeks
3. RM100 worth of water can last for 1 week for 10 families.
UNICEF declares "Yemen is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world – and children are being robbed of their futures."
